Lunar New Year

We have had a wonderful week learning about Chinese/Lunar New Year in Bumblebees Class. The children have really developed a good understanding of how the festival is celebrated around the world and can recall some key facts such as: red being a lucky colour, fireworks being used to scare the monster Nian and the story behind the Chinese Zodiac.

We have incorporated Lunar New Year across the curriculum. The children have been creating their own dragons and in the hall we learnt how to complete the famous lion/dragon dance. On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have a food delivery from Neal at Happy Palace and sampled some delicious Chinese Food. On Thursday we developed our own culinary skills by beginning our Whole Class cooking sessions. These are so beneficial to the children's learning and development in numerous ways for example: PSED - turn taking, sharing; Communication and language - listening to instructions, giving responsibilities to our friends; Physical Development: Chopping, grating, knife skills and making healthy food choices; Understanding the world: learning where our food comes from.

This week we made Chinese Stir Fry. The children had a go at grating and chopping safely and all children gave the food at little try after they cooked it. Well done for giving it a go Bumblebees and showing a good growth mindset when things got tricky!
